The Harrison West Jazz Stage

About the Harrison West Jazz Stage

The Harrison West Jazz Stage is a free fall jazz concert series held on Sunday afternoons, from 1:00-2:30 PM at the Harrison Park Gazebo, in Harrison West, Columbus Ohio. Co-run by Harrison West Arts and the Harrison West Society, it is entirely run by neighborhood volunteers. Every year we hold four concerts. It is our hope that the Harrison West Jazz Stage helps build awareness of Columbus’ local jazz talent, helps spread enthusiasm for Columbus arts through community, and enriches the neighborhood of Harrison West.

Dr. E

Sunday, September 27, 2020

1pm - 2pm ET

Dr. E aka "The Inspirational Soul Queen" is a soulful recording and performance artist. A multi-dimensional performer in the spirit of Maya Angelou, Dr. E is OSU professor, songstress, songwriter, actress, author, activist, speaker, and survivor. As a recording artist, Dr. E has two solo album projects to her credit--“Elevated,” her first full length CD effort, was nominated for a best new artist award in 2010 and its follow-up, Songs for the Struggle, was named one of The Soul Show’s (WYEP-FM Pittsburgh) top 10 albums of 2017. The Twin Cities Arts Reader declared her one-woman show based on her memoir, PHD (Po H# on Dope) to Ph.D.: How Education Saved My Life (2013), a Critic’s Pick of the 2017 Minnesota Fringe Festival. Dr. E’s live show mirrors her experiences from an R&B and Funk perspective featuring the music of artists such as Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Phyllis Hyman, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill. Also featured in Dr. E’s show are original pieces that serve as a narrative to the struggles and triumphs of women of color. Recent performances in the midst of the pandemic have included performing for elderly and quarantining residents via Curbside Concerts, Columbus Arts Fest In Place online, as well as the Wex[EP] virtual concert series for experimental and original music, produced by the Wexner Center for the Arts. Dr. E is accompanied by musical director Chris Brown (keys), Troy Jones (drums), and R&B Hall of Famer Melvin Stewart (bass). You can learn more about Dr. E's music and advocacy at her website:

Jen Miller

Sunday, September 13, 2020

1pm - 2pm ET

To hear Jen Miller sing is to believe again in the redemptive power of human song. Evocative yet subtle, sultry yet smooth, Miller brings a wealth of experience and breadth of knowledge to every stage she steps on. Armed with a classical music degree from Capital University and an array of performing experiences, Miller brings fire to any room and light to any soul. Jen studied in college with jazz greats like Vaughn Weister, Stan Smith and Joe Hunter, but it’s the smoky dive bars and jazz clubs where she got her real education. Jen is accompanied by Matt Paetsch, Nathan Anders, Brett Burleson, and Nathan Parker. You can learn more about Jen's work at
